Payroll and benefits technician
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Compile time sheets and process the complete payroll cycle within the prescribed time in compliance with applicable rules and laws and in accordance with the collective agreements in effect: Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ) & administration – 150 employees, paid weekly
- Open, close and update employee files
- File documents
- Enter and update information on the CCQ website
- Process claims such as expense accounts, vacation pay, employment insurance applications, employee terminations, time banks and deduction of union dues
- Conduct required month-end payroll activities within the prescribed time
- Assist in the production and remittance of payroll deductions
- Take part in the management of benefits, sick leave, vacation leave and files with the Commission des normes, de l'équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST) (labour standards, equity, health and safety board)
- Send job terminations and tax slips (T4, Slip 1 and DAS)
- Fill out and take part in producing reports or monthly or year-end documents related to the Payroll department (training, CNESST, RRSP, group insurance, etc.)
- Take part in preparation and progressive invoicing
- Answer questions from employees regarding their pay
- Conduct payroll-related research (consumer price index, tax tables, taxable benefits, CSST rates, etc.)
- Process all payroll-related requests from internal or government sources or from various organizations
QUALIFICATIONS
- College diploma (DEC) in administrative techniques (finance major), accounting or any other relevant training or experience
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in a similar position
- Membership in the Canadian Payroll Association (CPA)
- Knowledge of the union context and the application of collective agreements at the CCQ
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite – intermediate level
- Knowledge of Nethris and SAP-Concur software (an asset)
- Very good knowledge of spoken and written French
- Intermediate-level English
