Excavation Estimator
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Visit the site with the Site Manager and Project ManageràIdentify the limitations of the land according to the project and assess their value
- Verify soil reports (geotechnical and environmental)
- Verify and keep up to date the various available construction plans and changes
- Establish the quantity plan based on the architectural plan
- Establish the backfill/excavation volume plan based on a topographical and civil plan, or soil reports
- Establish a complete list of project requirements, including installation needs
- Calculate the final cost based on the analysis results
- Prepare and finalize bids with the Project Manager
- Correct and/or modify bids and finalize them with the Project Manager
- Communicate with Project Managers, professionals and draftpersons when necessary and prepare, jointly with them, economic feasibility studies on possible changes and adjustments to projects (costs, material resources, schedule, etc.)
- Conduct quantity counts based on the quantity plan and civil plan (stone, sand, earth, transport, processing centre, disposal centre)
- Conduct a quantity count based on the quantity plan and civil plan
- Prepare preliminary project bids and excavation budgets (design, construction)
- Request and analyze bids from subcontractors and suppliers
- Take quantities and ensure that drainage systems are optimized
- Ensure filing in the computer system and in filing cabinets
- Prepare cost and expenditure statements and forecasts at regular intervals during the life of the project
- Establish and update bidding, monitoring and reporting systems and procedures
- Prepare and update directories of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
- Compare subcontractor and supplier price lists
- Attend excavation crew meetings as required
- Keep the excavation division’s binder
- Carry out any other job-related tasks and various assignments required by the immediate supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or equivalent field
- Ability to interpret the technical specifications of bid documents
- Ability to read and understand plans and specifications
- 2-5 years of experience on excavation projects
- 1-5 years of experience as an estimator
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or equivalent software
- Bilingualism (English/French)
- Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec
- Proficiency with Geomensura or Civil 3D software
- Proficiency with TPL estimation software
- Ability to design civil design sketches to estimate a cost (preliminary estimate)
